The American Chamber of Commerce in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AmCham BiH) marked today the completion of the year-long social responsibility initiative “Dobro se dobrim vraća”, implemented in cooperation with member companies. The initiative aimed to support organizations working with the most vulnerable groups in society and to raise awareness of the challenges these organizations face daily. Over BAM 140,000 was collected and distributed during the initiative, directed to organizations operating under persistent financial and institutional constraints.
Funds were allocated to the following organizations: Fondacija lokalne demokratije (Sarajevo), Udruženje Medica (Zenica), Udruženje Žene sa Une (Bihać), Udruženje građana Budućnost (Modriča), Udruženje Žene BiH (Mostar), Fondacija Lara (Bijeljina), Udružene žene (Banja Luka), Udruženje Vive žene (Tuzla), SOS Dječija sela BiH, Minores – Association for Support to the Homeless and Socially Vulnerable in Mostar, and the “Duga” Center for Children Without Parental Care.
These orgaNizations operate in highly demanding conditions. Safe houses face unstable funding, an increasing number of reported violence cases, and limited institutional capacity. Organizations supporting young people leaving institutional care point to the lack of employment and housing programs, while assistance to homeless and socially vulnerable individuals remains largely dependent on the non-profit sector. Institutions caring for children without parental care continue to stress the need for legislative reform, strengthened human resources, and sustainable long-term funding.
AmCham BiH CEO Nedim Hamzić stated:
“Our ‘Dobro se dobrim vraća’ initiative once again demonstrated that the business sector is willing and able to act as a positive driver of social change. However, we must also be clear: genuine progress, security, protection, and dignity for these groups cannot rely solely on corporate goodwill. A coordinated, responsible, and consistent effort from all levels of government is needed, including changes to legislative frameworks, institutional practices, and deeply rooted social attitudes. AmCham BiH will continue giving back to the community, and our commitment to these issues remains long-term.”
President of the AmCham BiH Board of Governors and President of the Management Board of UniCredit Bank d.d. Mostar, Amina Mahmutović, emphasized:
“Through this initiative, we demonstrate the AmCham community’s commitment to the common good and the well-being of our country and all its people. By supporting the most vulnerable among us, we show the strength of collective action and the responsibility we share, as only together can we change reality. It is particularly important to us that the funds raised will support organizations caring for victims of gender-based and domestic violence—a problem that, unfortunately, affects many lives. Every donation is a message of hope and proof that the business community can be a powerful driver of positive change.”
The “Dobro se dobrim vraća” initiative also sought to draw public and policymaker attention to systemic issues that cannot be resolved through humanitarian actions alone. Sustainable progress requires long-term institutional support, clear protection policies, and transparent financing mechanisms that recognize the societal importance of this work.
AmCham BiH and participating companies emphasize that while the collected funds help address immediate needs, they cannot replace the responsibility of institutions to ensure adequate protection for all citizens—especially women survivors of violence, children without parental care, young people leaving social care systems, and individuals living in extreme poverty.
